On November 11, sponsored by Language Big Data Alliance (hereinafter referred to as “LBDA”) and organized by School of Foreign Languages of Qingdao University, 2016 LBDA Board Meeting & “Translation+ Campus Campaign” Symposium was held in Qingdao University, a member of the Alliance.
In the morning, “Translation+ Campus Campaign” Symposium was held at Academic Hall of Normal School of Qingdao University. Mr. Yu Yang, General Manager of Global Tone Communication Technology Co., Ltd.(hereinafter referred to as “GTCOM”), Professor Huang Jiying, Vice President of Jilin Huaqiao Foreign Languages Institute and Dean of Graduate School of the Institute, Professor Wang Lidi, Deputy Dean of School of Humanities and Social Sciences of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen, delivered speeches respectively on the Symposium, which was attended by experts from China University of Geosciences, Wuhan, Macao Polytechnic Institute, GTCOM as well as more than 300 teachers and students of School of Foreign Languages of Qingdao University. The Symposium was hosted by Ms. Bian Jianhua, Dean of School of Foreign Languages of Qingdao University.
On the Symposium, Mr. Yu Yang told about his past years of study and work, throughout which he embraced every challenge with an enterprising spirit and strived constantly for self-improvement, and gave an introduction to the language service and innovative practices of GTCOM in the big data era. After that, Professor Huang Jiying and Professor Wang Lidi gave speeches titled The Truth of Foreign Language Education Lying in Cultivating the Souls and The Social Demands for Language Service and the Cultivation of Translation Talents respectively. They also exchanged ideas with the teachers and students present at the Symposium.
In the afternoon, 2016 LBDA Board Meeting was held at Truth Pursuit Hall of Exchange Center of Qingdao University. The attendants included Mr. Huang Youyi, Director of China National Committee for Translation and Interpreting Education(hereinafter referred to as “T&I”), Mr Zhong Weihe, President of Guangdong University of Foreign Studies and Deputy Director of T&I, Mr. Huang Song, General Manager of China Translation & Publishing Corporation, Mr. Yu Yang, General Manager of GTCOM, Mr. Dang Zhengsheng, Vice President of Xi’an International Studies University, Mr. Yang Junfeng, Vice President of Dalian University of Foreign Languages, Mr. Zhu Chaowei, Vice President of Sichuan International Studies University, Ms. Huang Jiying, Vice President of Jilin Huaqiao Foreign Languages Institute, Mr. Yi Chuijie, Deputy Party Secretary of Qingdao University and experts from 19 universities. The meeting was hosted by Ms. Bian Jianhua, the rotating chairman of the Alliance.
Mr. Yi Chuijie, Deputy Party Secretary of Qingdao University, extended welcome to all experts in his speech. He said Qingdao University is a key comprehensive university jointly established by Shandong Province and Qingdao City and one of the pioneering universities with great prestige intended for cultivation of the first batch of applied talents in Shandong province. The School of Foreign Languages stands out in the University with its distinctive features. He expressed his high appreciation for the trust given to Qingdao University by LBDA and T&I. He expected the meeting can help extend exchanges and cooperation and enhance communication between the members, so that they will contribute together to the development of the Alliance.
On the Symposium, Mr. Huang Youyi and Mr. Chong Weihe, Co-Chairmen of the Alliance, delivered speeches respectively. Mr. Yu Yang, Secretary-General of the Alliance, delivered a report in which he summarized the achievements in the year of 2016 and announced the work plan for the year of 2017. The attendants discussed and reviewed the qualifications for prospective members, the draft of internal cooperation mechanism and 2017 Annual Meeting of the Alliance.
At the end of the Symposium, Mr. Huang Song, Co-Chairman of the Alliance, gave concluding remarks.
