Starting from Scratch: LBDA Builds a Comprehensive Development System Integrating Governments, Industries, Universities, Researches and Applications
2017 Annual Meeting of Language Big Data Alliance (LBDA) will be held on April 7- and 8, 2017 in Guangzhou. As a global, multi-disciplinary and multi-lingual research application alliance based on an open platform for big data resource sharing, LBDA has developed over 150 members all over the world including colleges, universities, businesses and research institutes within only one year. Meanwhile, the colleges, universities, businesses and research institutes in LBDA have co-founded over 40 practice-based education and innovation centers. This year, the number of LBDA members is expected to exceed 220, including more than 60 research institutes and universities out of China. What’s more, a strategic cooperation agreement between LBDA and CIUTI was signed at the CIUTI Forum, which was held in January, 2017 at the United Nations headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, opening a new chapter for the internationalization of LBDA.

On April 8, 2016, LBDA was co-founded by China National Committee for Translation and Interpreting Education, China Translation Corporation, and 20 colleges, universities, research institutes, businesses and public institutions. Relying on the platform, LBDA integrates the comprehensive advantages of government, education, research and industrial cooperation to build premium brand projects. Over the past year, LBDA has made some accomplishments, starting from scratch, and preliminarily built a collaborative development system integrating government, industry, university, research and application.
Government: Professionally equipped to support the implementation of national policies
At the very beginning, LBDA advocates to apply its achievements into national construction and provide supports for government to perform functions in terms of technology, talent, resources and others. During its strategic cooperation with government departments, LBDA takes part in the design, demonstration and construction of the platform in virtue of language and big data technology. With the advance of time and its influence, more and more government-enterprise cooperative projects have been carried out inside and outside LBDA.

Universities cultivate talents for the enterprises. LBDA has always been paying high attention to the development of universities. LBDA members have reached strategic cooperation for many times with universities, deepening the cooperation in education, technology and culture. They have successively cooperated with Renmin University of China, Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, Macao Polytechnic Institute and dozens of other universities in the form of jointly building innovative laboratories, opening up internship and training bases and others. Meanwhile, in the respect of training for teachers, LBDA has organized diplomatic translation experts, senior translation reviewers and others to provide training lectures for university teachers for the purpose of improving professional skills of talents.

Research: Gathering resources to advance the research development
