On July 7, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen (“University”) and University of Sussex, England, signed a strategic agreement to deepen their cooperation. Joe Qin, Vice President, received Prof. Clare Mackie on behalf the University and executed this agreement upon mutual consultation.
University of Sussex has forged a long term cooperation with The Chinese University of Hong Kong and launched various academic exchange activities with the University upon conception. This strategic agreement will facilitate cooperation in academic exchange, scientific research, PhD mentoring, student exchange and professor sabbatical leave. Meanwhile, University of Sussex will set up a resident office at the University to meet the demand of massive exchange and research programmes.
University of Sussex will provide scholarships and internships to exchange students. Furthermore, both sides agreed on nurturing high level talent and swapping educational resources.
Professor Clare Mackie, University of Sussex, explained her reasons to work with the University. They have confidence in its research capability and academic excellence. In addition, they are also impressed by the growth potential of Shenzhen as evidenced by the tremendous support from the government.
Previously Sussex concluded an agreement with the University whereby both sides will exchange undergraduate students for one semester or one year starting from 2016. This scheme will be tuition free and credits earned by students will be recognized by both sides. The agreement also stipulates that by the end of their third year (not in the fourth year as the case should be), undergraduate students of the University may apply to University of Sussex for graduate study in economic management, science and engineering programmes, provided that they meet basic entrance requirements and complete their undergraduate study.
